Byron Stripling’s Multimedia Presentation of Joe Williams + Harry “Sweets” Edison—The Basie Connection

September 2 @ 8:10 pm

Joe Williams, known as “the blues singer in the tuxedo,” was known for his stint with the Count Basie Orchestra and his string of successful, Grammy winning recordings. Harry Edison, nicknamed “Sweets” because of the constant bevy of young ladies who surrounded him, played with jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday, and held a 13-year stint with the Count Basie band. The Basie connection between these two artists resulted in a musical spark, with the duo releasing four albums between 1959 and 1962, a highly prolific period for both of them.

This special show is part of the Sunday Evening session, which begins at 7:00pm.
