Carlos Alabaci - Bass

Arriving in Florida from Caracas, Venezuela at age five, Carlos Alabaci’s first contact with music was choral singing. When elementary school teachers recommended him for a magnet school program, he found New World School for the Arts and the double bass. Carlos has played bass for seven years, received awards for his musicianship, and scholarships for summer programs and festivals, including the Eastern Music Festival Orchestra. He is a member of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony, Young Musicians Orchestra, and Alhambra Orchestra. He plays in his school’s New World Symphony Orchestra, its jazz combo, and jazz band. Carlos remembers listening to his first jazz record – superbass players Ray Brown, John Clayton, and Christian McBride – where he fell in love with the instrument. His community service includes counseling at the Young Musician’s Camp at the University of Miami. Carlos wants to broaden his repertoire at the Vail Jazz Workshop and work on the Rabbath fingering technique with John Clayton.
