The Vail Jazz Festival is an annual celebration of jazz featuring live performances in and around Vail each summer. 2010 marks the 16th anniversary of the Vail Jazz Party, which began the Vail tradition of bringing together great jazz musicians, enthusiastic audiences and a stunning natural setting to create a cool good time over Labor Day weekend. The Festival has expanded over the years to offer live jazz from late June through early September, with free and ticketed jazz performances to delight everyone from children and music lovers to passionate jazz fans the world over.

Sunday, June 27, Impromptu

Impromptu celebrates the swing music of Django Reinhart, the famous Gypsy guitarist who along with violinist Stephane Grappelli founded the Hot Club of France defining a jazz genre known as “Gypsy Jazz.” The quartet is lead by Moroccan born guitarist M’hamed El’mendra with Gabriel Mervine on trumpet, Charlie Mertens on the bass and Mark Emmons on drums.

11-Jul

Sunday, July 11, Jeff Jenkins Trio

Jeff is a pianist, composer, producer who moved from New York to Denver in the 90's. His music is jazz and jazz influenced. Think of Bill Evans, John Coltrane meets Joe Zawinul, meets Mediski, Martin & Wood. His latest CD "Another Way" features jazz legend John Abercrombie and New York heavyweight Bill McHenry.

18-Jul

Sunday, July 18, Justin Allison Trio

Justin Allison leads his trio that focuses on beautiful ballads with a great mix of standards and Brazilian-bossa nova favorites. Justin's vocal and guitar styling appeals to everyone, from the most passionate jazz fan to the casual listener. A local’s favorite, the Justin Allison Trio never fails to please.

25-Jul

Sunday, July 25, Kathy Morrow Trio

Kathy Morrow is a Vail Valley musician who, in addition to being a locals’ favorite for her energetic performances, has been recognized for her exceptional vocal mastery and keyboard talent. Equally at home delivering an intimate ballad as well as scatting a couple of choruses of a tune, she always performs with finesse, enthusiasm and a joie de vivre.

1-Aug

Sunday, August 1, Max Wagner Quartet

The Max Wagner Quartet combines a mix of wonderful warm tones of ballads with high energy jazz played in the classic style of the famous saxophone lead jazz quartets of the past. With Max combining jazz vocals with his beautiful tone on the soprano and tenor saxophones, along with a “cookin” rhythm section, a good time will be had by all.

8-Aug

Sunday, August 8, Jeremy Wendelin Quartet

The Jeremy Wendelin Quartet is known for playing the kind of jazz that audiences love to hear — jazz that is melodic and adventurous at the same time. From the classic jazz of Brubeck and Coltrane to reinterpretations of fusion and funk; from timeless tunes to originals; from free improvisation to elaborate arrangements, the music is entertaining and exciting; it challenges artists and inspires listeners.

15-Aug

Sunday, August 15, Rick Weingarten Trio

The trio features Rick Weingarten on vibraphone, Scott Mattson on drums and Bill Stephens on keyboard. Cool jazz on a warm afternoon – the Trio features the unique sound of the vibraphone and carries on a swinging jazz tradition harking back almost 80 years to Louis Armstrong and Lionel Hampton.

22-Aug

Sunday, August 22, Laura Newman Trio
Laura Newman Trio is known for connecting with the audience with top notch musicianship and enthusiasm. Whether playing the tenor or soprano saxophone Laura’s extensive repertoire of original jazz compositions and standards, along with R&B, acid jazz, funk and pop tunes never fails to entertain.

29-Aug

Sunday, August 29, Tony Gulizia Trio

Tony Gulizia Trio returns to the market with their energetic, feel good sound. Three is a magic number with Tony Gulizia on keyboards & vocals, Tom Kirk on tenor sax and Alan Finney on drums & vocals. Having played together for many years, the trio has an uncanny connection, and can knock out just about any jazz request flawlessly, with no more than a glance and a beat passing between them.

Marcia Ball

Singer/pianist Marcia Ball knows how to raise roofs and tear down walls with her infectious, intelligent and deeply emotional brand of southern boogie, rollicking, roadhouse blues and heartfelt ballads. Over the course of her three-decade career, Ball has earned a huge and intensely loyal following all over the world. Her exquisite piano playing and passionate, playful vocals fuse New Orleans and Gulf Coast R&B with Austin's deep songwriting tradition into a sound No Depression described as "a little rock, a lot of roll, a pinch of rhythm and a handful of blues."
